Sandburg Named Number One Small College in Digital Technology

Carl Sandburg CollegeAn area college has been named national champion of digital technology for the third straight year.

Carl Sandburg College was recently awarded the accolade–naming the school best in its Small College’s category.

The award process is part of the Digital Community Colleges Survey. Since the survey opened 10 years ago, Sandburg has been named within the top 10 eight straight times for its use of digital technology service.

One of the highlights recently improving technology at Sandburg, is the adoption of its Open Education Resource Course Initiative.

The program provides support to faculty by providing open resources for course use. The initiative has reportedly saved more than $130,000—reducing textbook expenditures for students.

Technological improvements have been an offshoot of the program as well. Sandburg’s Math and Science Department is currently using 3-D and 4-D apps for instructional use.

Morton College was the only other college to finish in the top 10 in Sandburg’s category. They reportedly tied for eighth place. The school they tied with was not reported.
