Widener, Elville W. “Bill”

Elville W. “Bill” Widener, 90, of Monmouth, passed away at 1:45 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Roseville Rehabilitation and Health Care, Roseville, IL

Bill was born on December 4, 1924 in Smithshire, IL.  He is the son of William P. and Maude L. (Lewis) Widener.  Bill was raised and educated in Monmouth, and attended Monmouth Public Schools.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Melba Jean Wells on October 12, 1946 in Kirkwood.  She preceded him in death on June 30, 2008.

Bill delivered milk for the White House Dairy in Monmouth for a time.  He worked at Gates Rubber Factory in Galesburg for 32 years as a braider operator, retiring in 1990.

Bill enjoyed going to the boat, and spending time with his companion Chihuahua, “Pete”.

Surviving Bill are his two sons; Mike Widener and Scott (Carie) Widener both of Monmouth. Two sisters; Jane Lamb of Morrison, IL, Elnora Tucker of Galesburg, IL, grandchildren; Dorothy Widener, Dana Widener, Jason Widener, Brandon Ault, and Dustin Ault.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Melba, one son William David Widener, two daughters; Michelle Widener, and Nancy Kay Widener, seven brothers and sisters, and one great granddaughter.

Cremation rites will be accorded, a private committal of his ashes will be in Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth.  Memorials can be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.  For more information or to leave an online condolence please visit, www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com
