Henderson Creek Bridge, East Main Underpass Among Top Roadway Priorities

IDOT LogoA number of roadway and bridge replacement projects are in the works throughout Galesburg, Knox County, and Western Illinois as “road construction season” begins now that warmer temps are expected.

One of the local projects that just began, is a bridge replacement near Henderson Creek on I-74.

That’s according to IDOT Community Relations Manager Brian Williamsen, who says the bridge a few miles north of Galesburg will see construction through November.

Slower traffic and a few lane structure reductions down to one lane will be expected until work is complete.

Meanwhile, project construction on the East Main Street Underpass is still on hold for the time being.

Williamsen tells the WGIL Morning News, that funds and planning still need to be in order before any more work can be done moving forward.

“It’s a bit of a tricky location,” says Williamsen “We’re still working on getting funding squared away for that as well. I think once we can work out the details, that will be something that will be able to move forward–certainly something that we would like to see. We’re all going to be continuing that discussion on and off to be able to get that to the people in Galesburg.”

Williamsen says other renovations planned around Western Illinois, include the on-going bypass project on Highway 67 near Macomb.

Progress has reportedly been made, but two more phases still need to be completed. IDOT will need to wait to see what state funding comes in before deciding if the roadway can be expanded to a four lane bypass.
