Pulitzer Prize Winner to Speak at Knox

Natasha-trethewey2 (1)A Pulitzer Prize-winning poet is scheduled to speak at Knox College this week.

Natasha Trethewey will return to the college, following her visit last year, when she delivered an address as the 2014 Commencement speaker.

Trethewey will read from four of her poetry collections Tuesday evening–delivering the keynote address as a part of the Sandburg Days Festival in Galesburg.

Selections will be read from her books, “Thrall,” and “Domestic Work,” which won her the Cave Canem Prize for best first book by an African American poet.

Trethewey will also recite segments from “Native Guard”–her Pulitzer Prize winning piece.

President Teresa Amott says, “welcoming back Trethewey will be an honor.” April is also reportedly National Poetry Month, something Amott says the college is celebrating by hosting the 19th Poet Laureate of the United States.

While on campus, Trethewey is also scheduled to engage in an informal discussion with Knox students, faculty, and staff. The event is invite-only. Trethewey’s address for Sandburg Days is open to the public. The address will be held in Alumni Hall and begins at 7 p.m.
