Sitka Salmon Opens Downtown Retail Office

Sitka SalmonJob creation, facility acquisition, and the opening of a new location are all results of the continued growth of a local business who started just three years ago.

Sitka Salmon Shares opened its “retail location” today. The “new digs” are located at 109 S. Cherry Street in Galesburg–a project that was six months in the making.

That’s according to owner Nic Mink, who says he has watched his business grow from a single office inside of the Sustainable Business Center, into two local locations and most recently–processing location in Alaska.

Mink says the company recently purchased Big Blue Fisheries in Sitka, Alaska. He tells WGIL that the process was “a major undertaking.”

“We knew that to accomplish what we wanted to accomplish–which is to bring Midwesterner’s better fish–that we needed to bring our fish processing in house,” says Mink.”Up until we purchased Big Blue Fisheries, we had working with them and several other small processing places to contract process our fish. We did a nice job with that, but having our processor under our company, means we will own the entire thing from the boat to the plate.”

Mink says the purchase will primarily cater to small market orders. Two new jobs will also be created through the opening of the retail location. The positions will work handle retail aspects of the business
