Benedict DaveyDavey L. Benedict, age 85, of Knoxville, Illinois died at 10:15 P.M. on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois. 

He was born on December 26, 1929 in Joliet, Illinois the son of Ralph and Lucille Tender Benedict. He was raised and educated in Streator, Illinois. He received his GED in 1948 and he attended Carl Sandburg College. He married Sally Marquith in 1953.

Surviving his is wife Sally of Knoxville, Illinois; one daughter, Jill (Mark) Davis of Knoxville, Illinois; three sons: Steve (Karen) Benedict of Knoxville, Illinois, Dan (Cathy) Benedict of Lake Bracken, Illinois, and Rob (Carrie) Benedict of Knoxville, Illinois; Eleven grandchildren: Dusty (Laura) Swanson of Galesburg, Illinois, Nick Benedict of East Galesburg, Illinois, Chris Benedict of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Blake (Lindsay) Benedict, Trent Benedict, Adam Benedict, Derek Davis, and Grant Davis of Knoxville, Illinois, Amber Bowling of Lake Bracken, Illinois, Ryan (Lyndi) Bowling of Galesburg, Illinois, and John (Sarah Scott) Bowling of Monmouth, Illinois; Seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Pat) Benedict of Fort Myers, Florida; two sisters: Flora Steckman of Texas and Ruth (Charlie) Smith of Streator, Illinois; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Terry.

He served in the United States Navy. He retired from the former Gale Products working in both as a foreman and an inspector. He was a member of the Masonic Alpha Lodge #155 A.F. & A.M. of Galesburg, Illinois and the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #727 of Knoxville, Illinois. He enjoyed going to the boat, playing cards and collecting pocket knives.

 

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Michael D. Clark will officiate. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. There will be a Fellowship following the memorial services at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center. Private Inurnment Services will be held.
