Eastern Illinois Plans to Talk Ideas with Community College

MATOON, Ill. (AP) — Eastern Illinois University’s Board of Trustees plans to meet this week with its counterparts from a local community college about current and future collaborations.

Eastern Illinois’ board says it will meet with the board from Lake Land College in Mattoon on Thursday.

Eastern Illinois President Bill Perry said he and Lake Land President Josh Bullock decided the meeting would be a good idea.

Charleston-based Eastern has a service center on the Lake Land campus where students can explore their options for transferring to the university.

The two boards plan to talk about other areas where they can cooperate.

Many public universities and community colleges have talked in recent years about ways they can work together to, among other things, help students pursue less-expensive four-year degrees by taking community college classes.
