New Holiday Inn Breaks Ground in Galesburg

Holiday Inn81 contemporary guest rooms and a 1,200 square ft. meeting space will reportedly be key features of a new hotel being built in Galesburg.

Mayor John Pritchard aided hotel developers and the investor firm of Janko LLC this afternoon, in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Holiday Inn Express and Suites.

The new location will be built on East Main Street, near the current Holiday Inn–which has been on Main St. for the past 18 years.

The current location will be updated as well–something Mayor Pritchard says is “definitely a good thing for the city.” Pritchard tells WGIL, that adding the new development on top of that, brings a number of positives.

“Several times a year, Galesburg’s hotel rooms are fully rented out,” says Pritchard. “Adding capacity is a good thing–whether you’re coming to Knox (College) Commencement, or any of the major events like Railroad Days or the Stearman Fly-In–just to name a couple. That’s a good thing. A new hotel means more jobs, more tax revenues for the city, that’s a good thing. It’s just all a plus from the city point of view.”

Once the new hotel is built, Janko LLC will reportedly re-brand the current location. Chief  Operating Officer John Brooke says the firm has a number of potential clients lined up. The change will reportedly take place in seven to eight months.
