Former North Chicago School Board Member Sentenced

CHICAGO (AP) — A former member of the school board in North Chicago has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for taking kickbacks on school-bus contracts.

The FBI says 63-year-old Alice Sherrod of North Chicago was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Chicago.

According to the FBI, Sherrod received at least $566,000 in kickbacks from three co-defendants on $21 million in bus contracts. The transactions took place over at least a decade.

Sherrod was also the school district’s director of transportation from 2001 through 2010.

In all five defendants were involved in the case. All pleaded guilty to their roles in the scheme and have been sentenced.
