Shave For the Brave Honors Vets Again This Weekend

shave for the braveAlthough the razors will stay home this weekend, the Shave for the Brave Organization will host an event tomorrow night in order to honor those who have served.

The Beard’s and Brews fundraiser is being held at Iron Spike Brewing Company. Various activities are on tap, including a beard contest–in which various categories of facial hair will be judged.

That’s according to coordinator Crystal Wilson, who says to date–Shave for the Brave has raised around $20,000 through various events. Wilson tells the WGIL Morning News, that all of the proceeds are consistently donated to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities–an organization which sends veterans to Washington D.C. to see military memorials.

“They actually just did their 30th flight,” says Wilson. “In those flights, we’ve sent 115 veterans from and Galesburg, and there’s 24 more in just the City of Galesburg that are waiting. It’s just great, because it’s actually local people that get to go on the flight. You know, you send money to organizations, and you just don’t see the benefit of it. That’s what’s great about this–it actually sends local people.”

An auction and live music will also be featured tomorrow night. Activities start at 8 p.m.
