Springfield Police, Residents Meet and Greet at Open House

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — More than 100 Springfield residents got a look at the inner operations of their police department at an open house at the city’s police academy.

The State Journal-Register in Springfield reports the event Thursday night was one of a series the city’s police department is hosting to re-connect with the community.

Police Chief Kenny Winslow says the open house provided an overview of the department and allowed taxpayers to interact with officers.

He says if there’s an existing relationship with police, if there’s an emergency or adverse situation, residents will “give you a little more benefit of the doubt.”

Brad Wagner says he attended to see how the department operates and the various specialized teams they have.
