Hatch, Donna W.

Donna W. Hatch, 87, Galesburg, formerly of Avon, passed away Friday, April 24, 2015 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.  She was born near Avon on May 10, 1927, the daughter of Ray and Hazel Leister Wisner.  She married Henry Hatch on February 22, 1948 in Avon; he preceded her in death on December 30, 2012.

Surviving are her children, Nancy (Jerry) VandeVoorde, East Moline, Barry Hatch, Galesburg, and Louise (Dan) Hiett, Avon; sister-in-law, Hazel Wharff, Des Moines, Iowa, sister-in-law Mildred Hatch, Atlantic Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, seven nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter-in-law, Karen Hatch, and brothers-in-law, Harold Hatch, Jerry Hatch, and Keith Wharff.

Donna graduated from Avon Community High School in May 1945 and completed the two year secretarial course at Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, where she was affiliated with the Pi Beta Phi fraternity. She was employed in the commercial department of the Illinois Telephone Company in Bushnell until she and Henry were married. She then took on the role of homemaker.

Donna and Henry lived on a farm near Avon for over 60 years. They attended the Federated Church and were active in Couples Club, Bridge Club, and attended many school activities which involved their children and grandchildren.

Donna enjoyed reading, conversation, and her family very much.  Her natural, sharp, homespun sense of humor and adages will be remembered fondly and are among many other cherished memories.

The Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Federated Church in Avon, Illinois, followed by the committal service at Avon Cemetery.  Rev. Jon Prain will officiate. Family will receive friends from 9:00-11:00 a.m.  Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the Avon Federated Church or Charity of choice.  Online Condolences may be made at www.wisefamily-hooverhall.com.   Wise Family-Hoover Hall is in charge of the arrangements.
