Illinois Company Wants to Prepare Schools For Shooters

HARVARD, Ill. (AP) — A company in northern Illinois wants to prepare schools in case there is an active gunman on campuses.

Doug Frenk of Harvard says he wants to provide schools with the gear they’ll need to defend themselves during the time it takes for first responders to arrive. He tells The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald that he and business partner Dean Burton have started the company Intruder Defense Services and the defense system Guard Safe.

The goal is to train and equip school staff with nonlethal means in the case of a shooter. The company gives schools two cabinets with key-card access. The cabinets contain a ballistic vest and a device that launches pepperballs. Frenk says the system gives the school the ability to protect and evacuate students until police arrive.
