Madigan Continues Push for Campus Sex Assault Protection

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) – Illinois’ attorney general is continuing a statewide tour to generate support for more stringent efforts to prevent campus sex assaults.

Lisa Madigan is scheduled to visit Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Monday to promote a legislative proposal called the Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education Act.The bill would require Illinois colleges and universities to bolster existing efforts by adopting “comprehensive policies concerning sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.” The legislation is under consideration in the state Senate after the Illinois House approved it last week by a vote of 113-2. Madigan’s Edwardsville visit comes four days after Vice President Joe Biden spoke about campus sex assault prevention at the University of Illinois. She has also held campus sexual violence summits in Chicago and Normal.
