FORSYTH, Ill. (AP) — Forsyth officials are hoping increasing interest in disc golf will pay off in terms of leisure time activities and visitors.
The (Decatur) Herald & Review reports the village board has approved a $10,500 plan for an 18-basket disc golf course in Forsyth Park.
The game is played with a flying disc thrown at a target or basket and follows many of the rules of golf.
Trustee Bob Gruenewald says the development could host tournaments, particularly because Decatur also has a course.
After receiving an inquiry last year about a course, Gruenewald researched it and found promise in the idea.
A Rantoul firm will design the layout for $1,500 and the village has pledged $9,000 to purchase baskets.
Forsyth is 180 miles southwest of Chicago.
