CHICAGO (AP) — Commuter rail service to northwest Indiana from Chicago has been disrupted by an accident involving a freight train.
A shipping container on a Canadian National freight train hit a bridge Monday evening on Chicago’s South Side, halting service on the South Shore Line.
CN spokesman Patrick Waldron says crews are trying to move a portion of the train off of the South Shore Line tracks so commuter operations can resume.
Waldron says although Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District officials are describing the incident as a derailment, no freight cars have been found to have left the track.
Metra’s Electric District is not affected by the mishap.
