Bennett, Naoma “Marie”

Bennett NaomaNaoma “Marie” Bennett, 99, of Oneida, Illinois passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at 9:55 A.M. at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois. 

Naoma was born on February 29, 1916 in Jameson, Missouri.  She married Walter L. Bennett on January 30, 1932 in Chillicothe, Missouri. 

She spent most of her life on the farm and enjoyed raising the animals and tending to her plants and flowers. She was also employed by Galesburg Mental Health where she eventually retired as a Health Care Technician. Naoma was an avid Cubs fan; she attended as many Cubs caravans as possible, collected Cubs memorabilia, and made it to spring training in Tempe, Arizona for 14 straight years.  She was able to live unassisted for 92 years; she then resided with her daughter Peggy for two years before entering the Mercer County Nursing Home. She was very proud of the fact that she was able to be the matriarch of 6 generations.

Naoma is survived by her 7 children; Eva Bainbridge of Danville, Kentucky, Norman (and Sandy) Bennett of Saratoga, Wyoming, JoAn Peterson of Wataga, Illinois, Harriet (and Carl) Ewing of Monmouth, Illinois, Bill (and Sue) Bennett of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Larry (and Melody) Bennett of Galesburg, Illinois, and Peggy (and Mike) Kraynak of Oneida, Illinois. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 infant children, 1 son; Rex W. Bennett in 1986, and 2 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home.  Rev. Russ Theobald will be officiating the services.  Interment will take place at the Oneida Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be left to the family or donor’s choice.  Online condolences can be made at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
