GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (AP) — The president of a community college in suburban Chicago is going on medical leave amid a federal investigation and criticism of the school’s spending.
The Chicago Tribune reports College of DuPage President Robert Breuder was set to begin his medical leave Wednesday.
The college announced his medical leave Tuesday night and didn’t say if he would return.
Breuder’s medical leave pre-empts a plan by incoming trustees to put him on administrative leave this week.
The Glen Ellyn-based school has faced criticism over a $763,000 severance package to end Breuder’s contract next year, three years early.
Subpoenas were served to administrators at the school earlier this month, seeking documents including Breuder’s employment agreements, emails and college-issued credit cards.
The college also is being investigated by DuPage County prosecutors and state education officials.
