Monmouth College To Receive Over $8 Million For New Initiatives

Monmouth CollegeAn area college will reportedly receive more than $8 Million dollars thanks to a challenge gift from an anonymous couple.

The challenge was arranged last fall by a friend of the college and her spouse, who agreed to provide a two to one match if trustees of the school agreed to donate $2.5 Million in gifts by the end of 2015.

The $7.5 Million total will be added to more than $3 Million in funds already raised by trustees, which were reportedly being saved for student financial aid, scholarships, and faculty enrichment.

‘That’s according to Monmouth President Clarence Wyatt who says the donors and trustees “made an extraordinary gesture.” Wyatt tells WGIL, that the gift will greatly aid the institution as a whole.

“It’s going to enrich the experience so greatly, in terms of what it empowers our faculty and staff to do, in terms of making an even stronger teaching and learning experience for our students at Monmouth,” says Wyatt. “It’s going to open up some opportunities for them.”

Wyatt says one way funds will aid students, is through “enhancing the global experience at Monmouth.”

Entering freshman classes will reportedly be provided paperwork and a free application fee for passports, in order to promote studying abroad and worldwide learning at home.

Remaining funds will go toward an endowment to create full-tuition scholarships as well as mentoring and enrichment projects.
