State Treasurer Shares 100-Day Report with Galesburg

mike frerichsEducation, Access, and opportunity. Those are the three words inscribed in the letter head of a report that was recently completed by the Illinois State Treasurers office.

Newly elected Treasurer Michael Frerichs visited Galesburg yesterday in promotion of the audit he completed during his first 100 days in office.

The “100-day report” cited the elimination of the offices paid internship program–removing the financial aspect. Issues such as re-vamping a state-wide college saving program and better management of the state’s unclaimed property were also mentioned.

Frerichs tells WGIL that he wanted to share all of the issues addressed in the report with downstate areas including Galesburg.

“We came through Galesburg a couple of times during the course of the campaign, and we told people we weren’t going to forget about this town when we come back,” says Frerichs. “I think some people might view this as a small town here–I grew up in Gifford, Illinois–population 800. To me, Galesburg seems like a big city, but I grew up downstate, and I intend to represent the entire state, and not just one portion of it. We’ve always enjoyed coming through here–we’ve always had a good reception. I’m happy to come back again, and this won’t be the last time we come through.”

Frerichs continues his statewide tour spreading the audit information. The State Treasurer reportedly manages approximately $25 billion dollars in funds every year.
