Jim Jones0001James S. (Jim) Jones 78, of Macomb, formerly of Avon, Illinois, passed away at 12:03 PM Wednesday April 29, 2015 at Wesley Village. He was born Jan. 27, 1937 in Fairfield, Iowa to Sam and Lillian (Bailey) Jones. He married Judith K. (Anderson) Jones in Birmingham, IA, Nov. 22, 1956 they shared 58 years of marriage. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons,  James J. (Jamie) Jones of Costa Mesa, CA; and Jeffrey S. (Jeff) and spouse Mary Ann (Ruff) of Naperville, IL; five grandsons, Matt (Rachel) Jones of Chesapeake, VA;  Kevin Jones of Chicago, IL;  Zach and Ky Jones of  Bismarck, ND; Brett and Tyler Jones both of  Naperville, IL;  three great grandchildren,  Hunter, Colton, and Aspen Jones of Chesapeake, VA; sister, Jennabelle (Melvin) Mullikin of Packwood, IA; two nephews,  Rick (Kelly) Spees of Fairfield, IA; Jason Spees of Birmingham, IA; two great nephews Stetson and Sterling Spees of Fairfield, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Maranda Jones.

He grew up in Birmingham, Iowa and graduated from Birmingham High School in 1954. He served in the National Guard for 7 years in the Army Artillery Unit at Washington, IA. Jim was employed by  Roberts and Dybdahl as a lumber trader for 40 years retiring in 2007. He was a past associate director of the Illinois Lumber and Material Dealers Association before retirement. Prior to that he was in retail lumber sales in Fairfield, Grand Mound, and Stanwood, IA. In Grand Mound and Stanwood he was a member and past president of the volunteer fire department. He was a past member of the Stanwood Lions Club, 50+ year member of the Avon Harmony Lodge #253 in Avon, IL, and enjoyed helping with the CHIPS Program, and a past board member and president of the Avon School District and Little Swan Lake Association. He enjoyed country music, square dancing , landscaping and the 43 years spent residing at Little Swan Lake. He was an active member of the Avon Methodist Church.

He was a thoughtful and appreciative husband and father and was proud to watch his sons develop into successful men. He especially enjoyed attending his grandson’s special sporting events and giving their best. He was very proud of all of them.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday May 2, 2015 at the Avon United Methodist Church where visitation will be Friday May 1, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 8:00 PM. The Reverend Trish Chapman will officiate. Interment will be in the Avon Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Avon United Methodist Church, McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or to the Parkinson ’s Disease Fund at McDonough District Hospital.
