Murder Trial Delayed Again for Former Illinois Prosecutor

QUINCY, Ill. (AP) — The trial for a former Adams County prosecutor charged with killing his first wife has been delayed for a third time.

Attorneys for Curtis Lovelace appeared in before Judge Bob Hardwick Thursday for a status hearing. Attorney Jay Elmore said he and attorney Jeff Page were not close to being ready for trial. Elmore told the judge that he and Page are currently trying to consult with an expert.

Hardwick set Sept. 21 as the new trial date for Lovelace.

Lovelace is charged with first-degree murder in the 2006 suffocation death of 38-year-old Cory Lovelace in Quincy.

Curtis Lovelace is a former Quincy school board member and Big Ten football standout at Illinois. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held in lieu of $5 million bond.
