New Projects on the way for City of Galesburg

Galesburg-city-signThe East Main Street Underpass is moving along slowly but surely.

Galesburg City Engineer Wayne Carl says the project has not come to a halt, it just takes time.

Carl tells the WGIL Evening News that several buildings are on contract to be demolished to move along the project.

“There are six buildings under contract right now to be demolished,” says Carl. “The contractor has two of them knocked down, and I think they are knocking a third down (today.) He’ll get the other three taken down–the Goodyear store will probably be the last one that’s taken down–but he’ll get those taken down by the end of May.”

Carl says sometime in June another contract should begin that will allow them to demolish the other buildings they need to get rid of.

He expects that the roadway for the Main street underpass will begin sometime in August.

Other projects in store for Galesburg include the completion of the Bickerdyke bridge, which still needs some painting.

A seal coat project in southwest Galesburg and the East Main Street Corridor Enhancement project are also on the agenda in the coming months.

Carl says he hopes they can do work at Rotary Park, but has to wait to see what the budget will look like to begin that.
