Woodstock Celebrates Orson Welles In May With Festival

WOODSTOCK, Ill. (AP) — The northern Illinois city of Woodstock is celebrating the life and achievements of the late film industry giant Orson Welles this month.

An opening night gala, film screenings and panel discussions are on the schedule of the Orson Welles Centennial Festival. Welles was born 100 years ago in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He arrived in Woodstock when he was 11 years old to study at the former Todd School for Boys.

The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald reports one of the special guests will be Oja Kodar, an actress who was Welles’ partner and collaborator for the last 24 years of his life.

Welles’ movie “Citizen Kane” will be screened on May 6, which would have been Welles’ 100th birthday. Critics regard it as one of the best films of all time.
