16 Organizations Awarded Funding Through GCF Capacity Grant

Galesburg Community FoundationThe Galesburg Community Foundation recently released the recipients of the first Capacity Grant.

The grant provides funding for technology, professional development, endowment development and strategic planning.
16 local organizations were selected this year.

Galesburg Community Foundation Executive Director, Josh Gibb, says they wanted to help these organizations on the operational side.

Gibb tells WGIL the process of selecting the groups, which starts by being part of a certificate or nonprofit governance or already working with the Community Foundation.

“We opened this to people who had been through the Community Foundation in certificate or non-profit governance or for those who actually have a fund with the foundation,” says Gibb. “That was the first level of criteria. Then, we had an application that they filled out that told us about their project, and we had a volunteer committee go through applications.”

Gibb says this is the first year the Capacity Grant has been available.

The Community Foundation previously had grant applications that went towards programs or events rather than the organization operations.

A few of this years recipients included the Knox County YMCA, The Knox County Health Department, and the Prairie Players Civic Theatre.
