2 Canadian Pacific Train Cars Derail in East Moline

EAST MOLINE, Illinois (AP) — Canadian Pacific railroad officials are investigating what caused two cars of a 17-tanker-car train to jump the track in East Moline, Illinois.

According to Canadian Pacific spokesman Andy Cummings, the wheels of two cars went off the track as the train was slowly moving along Monday morning. Cummings said the cars, as well as the rest of the train cars, remained upright. No leaks or injuries were reported.

Railroad officials helped throughout the afternoon to get the cars back on the track across from the East Moline water treatment plant. The spokesman said there was no damage to the tanker cars, but there was damage to the track.

East Moline Fire Battalion Chief Bruce Colmer said the rail cars carried materials including acetone, acrylic and hydrogen fluoride.
