Annual “Touch A Truck” Event Catering to Kids

Galesburg Touch a truckChildren from around the area will have the chance to explore trucks and a number of other vehicles on wheels tomorrow.

The 15th Annual “Touch A Truck” event is back at the Lake Storey Pavilion this year, and it’s geared toward entertaining the kids.

Galesburg Recreation Supervisor Elizabeth Varner says the event has become a popular field trip for area schools and day care centers.
Varner tells the WGIL Morning News, that she never imagined the event would become as big as it has.

“We do it during the week and I’m sure if we did it on the weekend it would be huge,” says Varner. “We really cater it to the little kids, that’s one reason we do it during the day as we’re catering to the little toddlers on through about second or third grade. The buses are just constantly pulling up and it’s become a wonderful field trip. And it’s free, so it’s great for the school systems.”

The kid-friendly event will also feature mascots, including Louis the Lightning Bug and Sniffasorous, who will appear with representatives of Ameren Illinois, teaching natural gas safety.

Police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, tow trucks, and more will be on display tomorrow. Events begin at 10 a.m.
