URBANA, Ill. (AP) — The University of Illinois’ fundraising arm has hired a new president who holds the same job now at the University of Arizona.
The University of Illinois Foundation said Monday that 49-year-old James H. Moore Jr. will take over as president on July. He will replace Edward Ewald, who has been interim president since Thomas Farrell resigned as president in 2014 to take a job at the University of Rochester.
The foundation says it raises more than $300 million a year.
University leaders in Illinois and elsewhere say private fundraising is becoming increasingly important as state support for public universities drops.
Moore has led the Arizona foundation since 2006. The foundation raises about $180 million a year for the University of Arizona.
