Cyclists of Galesburg Pedaling For A Cause

Cyclists of GalesburgIf you see a bicycle rider on the streets this weekend, its possible they belong to a local organization that gets out to pedal frequently.

Cyclists of Galesburg have begun riding again this year, and this weekend they will host one of their two largest rides of the year.

The annual spring ride takes place this Saturday. Cyclist and organization member Jeremy Karlin says this weekends ride will be 50 miles, with various stops along the way.

Karlin tells the WGIL Morning News, that although the length may sound daunting to some, no one gets left behind.

“We have what we call a no-drop policy every ride,” says Karlin. “No matter the pace of people, you are not going to be dropped, you’re not going to be out there alone looking off in the distance and seeing the rest of the group. We have stronger cyclists certainly–much stronger than I am–and they will go out past the group, but then they will come back.”

Karlin says every year on this ride, the proceeds from registration fees go to a local organization. This year that organization is the FISH Food Pantry.

Cyclists will push off from Ride and Run around after yoga which begins around 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration opens at 8.
