CHICAGO (AP) — Federal grants totaling $2.1 million are on the way to community health centers in Chicago, Elgin, Sauget (SAW’-zhay) and Springfield.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin announced the grants Tuesday. The money comes from the Department of Health and Human Services and is part of the Affordable Care Act.
Durbin says community health centers are important “particularly in rural and urban medically underserved areas.”
In Chicago, Asian Human Services Family Health Center has been granted $487,500 in funding. Greater Elgin Family Care Center is expecting $541,667 in funding.
Southern Illinois Health Care Foundation in Sauget is getting $478,227. And Southern Illinois University in Springfield can expect a grant of $650,000.
