Silas Willard Staff “Excited” for New Features and More Space

silas construction 2Construction work on the new Silas Willard Elementary School continues to move forward. 1/4th of the walls have been raised, and a bid has reportedly been accepted for the building’s elevator, which will be installed in the new facility.

That’s according to Principal Angela Stockman who says the staff and students are excited for many of the new features such as air conditioning, which is not available in the current building.

Stockman tells WGIL, that out of all the features, she is most looking forward to the additional space.

“Right now we have no rooms available in the afternoon,” says Stockman. ” If I want to hold a meeting, I have to go to the cafeteria–to the actual lunchroom. We’re just out of space, and we’re excited to have the extra space to be able to do more projects and to do more drama features, presentations–those sorts of things.”

Stockman says the school plans to keep a fair amount of the historic value of the original structure. A nurses medical cabinet, bricks, and a longstanding memory garden will all be used in the new building.

Stockman says the project is coming along. Classes are expected to begin in the new school by January of 2016.
