Galesburg Postal Service Collecting Food For Local Pantries

stamp out hungerThe Galesburg Post Office has sent out blue bags that citizens can use to donate food to local food pantries.

The Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive helps pantries during the off season when food is running low.

Coordinator Toni Ball says this is the biggest one day food drive in the country. Ball tells the WGIL Morning News that this year their big sponsor Campbell’s has dropped out, but they are still ready to go.

“Campbells, who was generally our big national sponsor for this–they pulled out this year and are going a different direction,” says Ball. “We were all kind of scrambling last minute to get cards and stuff like that. This year in Galesburg, and in some of the surrounding counties–will be giving out these blue bags so that you can grab it out of your mailbox, put some food in it, and put it back in for Saturday.”

Ball says quick dinners would be preferred. The local food pantries don’t get as many donations in the summer months.

Ball says to keep children in mind who won’t be getting meals from school during that time.

The bags will be delivered in mail boxes for people to put food into that will be collected at the end of the week.
