The Knox County Housing Authority has confirmed that the outbreak of bed bugs in Moon Towers is no more.

Nearly 41 units in the building were infected with bugs–an issue that spanned nearly seventeen months beginning in January of 2014.

Pest control specialists have conducted treatment since that time.

Housing Authority Executive Director Derek Antoine says “while there is a possibility for future cases, the authority has now put in place measures of prevention.”

Antoine says “new procedures and protocol have been introduced to to prevent further cases.”

The cost of battling the issue did not come cheap. The agency reportedly spent nearly $25,000 on pest removal.

As a part of the new protocol, all tenants moving into Moon will now be required to have furniture inspected, in hopes of preventing a future outbreak.

Moon Towers Property Manager Brandi Watkins added, that “individual tenants play an important role in keeping their homes bed bug free.”
