speaks, donaldDon W. Speaks, 73, of Galesburg, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in Heartland Health Care Center.

He was born May 21, 1941 in Loami, Illinois the son of Alvie and Lucille Speaks.

He is survived by his fiancé, Terrie Allen of Galesburg; a brother, Lawrence Speaks; three sisters, Wanda Freeman, Ima Jean Cummings, and Bonnie (and John) Speaks; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bill, George, Ernie, Richard, and Robert; and a sister, Carolyn.

Don was raised and educated in the Springfield area. He had worked in sales for a beer distributor there before moving to Galesburg in 1990. He was a consultant at Rex and worked in sales at Sears before retiring.

Don enjoyed watching birds from his covered patio and playing with the neighborhood kids. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Don was a veteran of the United States Army.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life gathering will be 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015 at The Pizza House on Simmons St. in Galesburg. A good friend of Don’s, Rev. Paul Lydic will offer remembrances. Memorial contributions may be directed to Terrie Allen.   Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is handling arrangements.
