Galesburg Public Library Seeks Additional Funds

Galesburg Public LibraryThe Galesburg Public Library Board of Trustees got together and covered several financial topics in their meeting yesterday.

One of the major projects the Board talked about was fixing the roof.

While funds are getting tight, Board Member Guy Cahill brought up another financial concern. Cahill says the presidential library being put in Chicago could dip into the budget that would go towards Illinois Libraries who also need funds from the state.

“My point is, the last thing we want to see happen is all of the machinations go through and there’s an appropriation for that library at the expense of all the other libraries that have been waiting in line, including ourselves,” says Cahill.

The board discussed how they would be able to obtain a list of other libraries in need and have them contact their local state representatives. Talks of possibly reaching out through the Illinois Library Association were brought up, but the details are still undetermined.

Galesburg Public Library Director Harriet Zipfel said the repair to the roof could end up costing between 15 to 25 thousand dollars, but doesn’t know exactly.

The Galesburg Public Library is fourth on the list to receive funds from the State.
