Local Barbershop Using Space To Showcase Local Art

Glory DaysAn area barbershop is using its space for more than just haircuts.
Glory Days Barbershop in Galesburg was placed under new ownership in 2013, and since that time, art has been a feature to coincide with the business itself.

Owner Kyle Rohweder says since he took over the shop two years ago, he has taken the shop on on as “an extension of himself.” Rohweder tells WGIL that one way he has made that a reality, is through transforming the shop into what he calls “an art hub.”

“We have photography and we have painting and we have a rotating art show, as well as doing live music here a couple times a month,” says Rohweder. “Another thing that we need to do with this remodel is figure out the best way to condense the things that we have here.”

Rohweder says the shop is currently undergoing renovations including a refinishing of its floor, and the purchase of newer chairs. Various vintage posters, signs, and memorbilia hang from the walls, which Rohweder essentially says adds to the aesthetic of the art.

The Glory Days builidng has been in the area since 1972, when the shop was owned by Ray Jacobs. Rich Schramm then took over the shop, and Rohweder began to work for him before the shop changed hands due to Schramm’s retirement.
