CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — The CEO of a foundation devoted to medical issues will be the speaker at the University of Illinois’ spring commencement.

The ceremony will be at 9:30 a.m. May 16 at Memorial Stadium on the Urbana-Champaign campus. Many individual departments will have their own ceremonies later.

The university also plans to honor several alumni. They include Nick Holonyak Jr., a graduate who became an electrical engineering professor at the university and developed the first light-emitting diode, or LED.
