Diers, Kenneth “Kenny” P.

Diers, KennethKenneth (Kenny) Paul Diers, 90, of Roseville, IL, passed away on May 6, 2015 at the Roseville Rehab and Health Care Center. He was born in Jefferson County, Iowa on November 27, 1924, the son of Arthur Benjamin Diers and Katharina Burger Diers. On March 5, 1949, he married Elizabeth (Betty) A. Hickman in Monmouth and they were married for 63 years.  They resided in rural Smithshire and Raritan.

Kenny graduated from Roseville High School.  Kenny and Betty farmed east of Raritan since 1949 and retired from farming in 1991.

Kenny is survived by his daughter, Paula (Roy) Robinson of Carlinville, IL. Two grandchildren:  Erin (Jeff) Lockwood, Girard, IL and Michael Robinson, Carlinville, IL.  Two great-grandson:  Mason and Easton Lockwood. Two nephews Wayne and Alan Diers and two nieces Virginia Diers and Florence Wright.   He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Willard and Leonard Diers.

Kenny served in the Army under the Construction Equipment 359 unit in Occupied Japan.  He joined the service on October 5, 1946 and was honorable discharged on January 26, 1948.

Kenny was active for many years as a director of McDonough Telephone Cooperative.  He has served as a leader on the local board and at state and national levels.  Kenny served as president of the Cooperative board from 1977 to 1988.

Kenny served on the Raritan State Bank Board of Directors for four years.  He was an active Raritan Volunteer Firemen for more than 50 years and served as Chief for 15 years.

Kenny served as Post Commander of the American Legion Lawson Babbitt Post 614 in Roseville and also Commander of the Bi-County Legion.  For 39 years, he was also a member of the Forty and Eight, an organization of veterans.

Kenny served as Chair of the Raritan 1976 Bi-Centennial Committee.  He served as a member of the Warren County Zoning committee for 15 years.

In 1978, Kenny was named Raritan Citizen of the Year.  For many years, Kenny was involved in youth summer baseball leagues in Roseville.  Kenny was a member of the Roseville Masonic Lodge 519 for 18 years.

Cremation Rites have been accorded and a memorial service for Kenny and Betty will be held on July 4 in Raritan with more details to come.  Memorials may be made to the Roseville American Legion or the Raritan Fire Department.
