Variety of Events in Galesburg Lined Up for Summer

Galesburg-city-signWarm weather has finally arrived and summer is just around the corner. With the summer months on the way, a variety of events are being planned for citizens to enjoy around town.
Galesburg Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director Bill Morris says tourism is up in the state of Illinois.

Morris tells WGIL Galesburg Live that this week is National Tourism Week and Illinois is moving up the list for domestic tourism.

“There’s one thing interesting about Illinois, our effort  domestically has been so successful over the last four years that we’ve seen growth and growth and growth, finally, in 2013 we broke the 100 million visitor barrier,” says Morris. “In 2014, we actually surpassed Nevada for domestic tourism in the state of Illinois.”

Morris says that obviously Chicago has a big part in that, but Galena is also a major attraction as well.

Other events coming up to look forward to include the Semitruck Cruise In and Run Galesburg Run in early June, Railroad days at the end of June, and the Taste of Galesburg in July.
