Illinois Turns Over Marijuana Applications to Attorneys

CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois has turned over 13,000 pages of documents to attorneys challenging how medical marijuana business licenses were awarded.
Attorney John Rooks says today that the release of the material Friday marks the first time the state has opened up the information. He represents Chicago-based PM Rx, an aspiring marijuana company that has sued the state of Illinois.

A Cook County judge ordered the documents released to attorneys involved in the case, but has prohibited their release to journalists and the public. The documents include applications from five companies that competed for a growers’ permit in Ford, Iroquois and Kankakee counties.

Questions have been raised about the marijuana licensing process under former Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration. Rooks says secrecy has prevented his client from finding out “what really occurred.”
