Judge Dismisses Lawsuit in Southern Illinois Woman’s Death

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — A judge in southern Illinois has dismissed a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in 2012 in the apartment of a police dispatcher she’d dated.

Authorities have said there isn’t enough evidence to determine whether the gunshot wound to Molly Young’s head was a suicide, homicide or accidental.

The (Carbondale) Southern Illinoisan reports Jackson County Circuit Judge W. Charles Grace dismissed the lawsuit Friday. Young’s father, Larry, filed it against a former Carbondale Police Department dispatcher.

In the order, Grace says the court is sorry for the loss but Young failed to file within two years of his daughter’s death as required by law.

The lawsuit was filed in June 2014, two years and three months after the death.
