Monmouth College To Partake in Mellon Foundation Grant

Monmouth CollegeAn area college will reportedly work with a number of other institutions through a new grant this year.

Monmouth College recently announced its involvement with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. A new $8.1 Million dollar grant will reportedly be used to encourage students from underrepresented backgrounds to consider careers as college professors.

Dean of Faculty David Timmerman says “student demographics of college attendance have shifted dramatically, making it more and more important for institutions to encourage minority student achievement through professorship.”

The seven-year initiative will be a group effort. Monmouth will join with 14 other liberal arts colleges from the midwest, as well 15 research universities.

Timmerman says the program is essentially a three part initiative–providing enticement for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Funds for the program will also reportedly be used to aid through workshops helping Monmouth through inclusive hiring practices.
