One Confirmed Dead In Route 41 Accident

WGIL News Icon 250px cmpThe Knox County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that one person has died as a result of an accident that took place last night near the 900 block of Highway 41 in Abingdon.

Captain Dave Caslin reported that 69-year-old Anita Mitchell of Galesburg is the deceased. According to authorities, no signs of life could be detected on Mitchell at the scene.

Mitchell’s 2009 Chevy Impala reportedly collided head-on with a 2006 Subaru Impreza driven by 17-year-old Ryan Baker of Abingdon.

According to a press release sent by the sheriff’s department, several witnesses observed Baker’s vehicle cross the center line striking Mitchell’s vehicle, however the crash remains under investigation.

Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 9:08 p.m. last night.

Caslin says Baker was transported via Life Flight to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Baker remains hospitalized with a broken arm and a leg.
