Chicago’s Goodman Theatre Announces $15M Expansion

CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago’s Goodman Theatre will undergo a major $15 million expansion.
The theater made the announcement today with Mayor Rahm Emanuel in attendance. The theater will expand into 7,800-square-feet adjacent to its downtown Chicago space and create classrooms, a learning lab and more rehearsal space.

The addition will be called the “Alice B. Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement.” It will be funded through private contributions.

Construction on the expansion starts this month. The space is expected to be available for use early next year.

The theater says the expansion will allow it to triple the number of educators in its teacher training program and double the number of young people it reaches through youth activities.

The Goodman Theatre won the 1992 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
