Obamas Highlight Their Chicago History with Library Choice

CHICAGO (AP) – President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama are highlighting Chicago’s importance in their lives as they announce the city will host his presidential library.

In a news release early today, President Obama says all the strands of his life came together and he “became a man” when he moved to Chicago. Michelle Obama says she’s thrilled to put the presidential center “in the heart of the neighborhood that means the world” to her. She says she considers herself  “a South Sider.”

The Obamas also say they’re hoping the library and foundation will encourage local change and attract the world to Chicago.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the Obama Library is “a once in a lifetime opportunity that will bring tremendous cultural, economic, and educational benefits” to the city.
