Former Illinois House GOP Leader Joins Aurora University

AURORA, Ill. (AP) — The former Republican leader of the Illinois House has been named a distinguished fellow at a suburban Chicago university.

Aurora University officials say Tom Cross will focus on promoting the university’s John C. Dunham STEM Partnership School.

The school provides science and math education for students in third through eighth grades. It also officers advanced education programs and degrees for teachers.

Cross served 22 years in the Illinois Legislature until he gave up his seat to run for treasurer last fall. The Oswego Republican lost to Michael Frerichs (FRAYR’-ikz) in what was one of the closest races in Illinois over the past century.

Cross was the GOP House leader for more than a decade.

The distinguished fellow position is supported by the Dunham Fund, a private foundation.
