Buddy Guy: King ‘Greatest Guitar Player That Ever Lived’

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago blues musician Buddy Guy says he hopes all guitar players remember B.B. King as “the greatest guitar player that ever lived.”

The 89-year-old died late Thursday at home in Las Vegas. Guy said Friday in an interview that he and King had been friends since they met in a Chicago blues club in 1958. Guy says King “bent the strings on a guitar like no one else.”

Guy owns a blues club in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood. He says he knows a lot of guitar players who are “making millions more in one night” than King made. Guy says those guitar players owe King all “the credit in the world.”

Guy also says he remembers King telling him the reason he played live was “because of love of music.”
