Gibbs, Julia “Jill” M.

Mrs. Julia M. “Jill” Gibbs, 76, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away 11:47 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She was born May 21, 1938 in Galesburg, Illinois to Julius W. “Judd” and Madeline Young Block. She married Dale Gibbs October 28, 1960 in Galesburg.

Surviving is her daughter, Laura Gibbs-Kirven (and Karlton) of Gilson, Illinois, a brother Jack Block of Dunn Loring, Virginia, a twin sister, Judy Wagner of Springfield, Illinois, two grandchildren, Zach Kirven and Carly Kirven, and her beloved cats Sally, Cheddar and Grady. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jill was raised on a farm in the Maquon area before moving to Knoxville in 1984. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1956, and went on to graduate from Bradley University, Peoria, Illinois in 1960 with her Bachelor’s degree. She was a teacher for Knoxville, district 202 for 18 years and then Carl Sandburg College for 15 years. Jill was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville.   She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and the AM Chapter of the P.E.O. in Knoxville. Jill loved animals. She raised horses and was an active volunteer for the Knox County Humane Society.

Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Knoxville. Rev. Phyllis Sterr will officiate.   There will be no visitation.   Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
