Meadows, Clifton A.

Mr. Clifton A. Meadows, 93, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 5:40 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 in Seminary Manor.

He was born November 24, 1921 near Foley, Missouri the son of Obie S. and Susie Allen Meadows. He married Ruth Robbins in Moline, Illinois on July 1, 1950. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1993.

He is survived several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and two sisters.

Clifton served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 during World War II. He served with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge.

He was an agent operator for Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years. He retired on November 30, 1982. He graduated from Winfield High School in Winfield, Missouri in 1940. He later attended Chillicothe Business College. Clifton was a member of the Telegraphers/Communication Union for 60 years. He was a lifetime member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 and the VFW Post #2257. He was a member of the Morse Telegraph Club, the Prairie Hub Club and AARP. He was very involved with the Galesburg Railroad Museum.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials may be made to Viola Methodist Church or to the Galesburg Railroad Museum. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
