Carl Sandburg College Men of Distinction and Women of Character Organizations Aid Future Students

Carl Sandburg CollegeSchool is about more than just class, and that’s what these organizations at Carl Sandburg College are here to provide. The Men of Distinction and Women of Character honorary organizations work with first and second year students. They help students by building relationships with them and encourage them to become involved in the college.

Organization Leader Anthony Law says he wanted to create that family feel at a college.

Law tells WGIL Galesburg Live that preparing for life after graduation doesn’t end with a degree.

“I look at it, and I’ll be honest, I thought about it, our goal is for everybody to get a degree, that’s first and foremost, that’s what the institution stands for, ” says Law. “But when we look at that, a degree in itself is not enough to really build a community. You have to be able to, you have to have a desire, or at least an understanding, that there’s importance to giving back to your community.”

Law says that this age demographic typically does not get involved in community service, but for these students it becomes second nature.

The organization has volunteered for several local organizations like the Lions club or the Boys and Girls Club.
